It is possible to start a business with no money

Many people dream of starting a business, but most fail to realize this dream due to the belief that starting a business is an expensive venture. While some businesses do require start-up funding, there are thousands of other potential businesses that can be started on a shoestring budget. To start a small business with no money, an entrepreneur must be willing to be creative and patient and be open to doing things in an innovative manner. While some may feel it is too difficult, starting a business with no money can actually make for a stronger and more unique company and can sharpen the business skills of its owner.

  1. Step 1

Be realistic about the type of business you should start. Some businesses, especially those that require extensive technology, research or skilled labor will be too difficult to start with no money. Instead, choose a field that requires little upfront investment. This would include most service businesses or any kind of handmade product. Some potential ideas that require no money upfront include childcare, handyman services, consulting or craft sales.

  2. Step 2

Consider what skills you currently posses that you could use to make money. For skills you already have, you won’t need training or basic equipment. Also, because you have experience in the field, you are less likely to make costly mistakes early on. For example, if you love to bake, consider selling baked goods at fairs and events. Eventually, you can begin to sell your products to cafes and stores for resale. Because all the cooking can be done at home, you won’t need money to get started. Thousands of skills and hobbies can be transformed into businesses without a source of start-up funding.

  3. Step 3

Wait to hire employees. In the beginning of a business, the huge number of jobs that need to be completed can seem overwhelming. To start a business with no money, you’ll need to do all these jobs yourself. To keep from feeling overwhelmed, realize this is the trade-off you made to allow you to achieve your dream.

  4. Step 4

Take advantage of free resources. The U.S. Small Business Administration is a free government agency designed to get small businesses off the ground. They offer a variety of free services, ranging from help with business plans to legal and accounting advice. Check the organization’s website to find your local chapter. Your local Chamber of Commerce or Business Development Office may also offer free services or mentoring, so check with your local government to find out.

  5. Step 5

Rely on free marketing techniques. Word of mouth advertising costs nothing. Consider everyone you meet as a potential customer, but also as a free advertiser. By sharing your business with others, you are exposing your company to that person and their entire network. You can also use free websites such as Craigslist, Twitter and Facebook to spread the word about your company.

INTRODUCTION

Abraham Lincoln, former president of the United States of America once said, “ I will study and prepare myself. One day I know my chance will come”. Finally, his chance came after losing several elections and he became president of the US.

Only those who are prepared can take advantage of the opportunity when the “chance “ comes.

This is a man who had very little formal education but ended up as one of the most learned statesmen America ever produced. He was a lawyer among other things. He obtained his education at home.

The sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo stopped in form I, present JSS1, in Wesley College, Ibadan then proceeded to obtain a diploma in Journalism and a bachelors degree of the University of London at home.

Don’t allow yourself to be robbed of your greatness in life by poor education. Rise to the challenge and read your way to greatness in life. Read yourself out of poverty and mediocrity. You can!

Education is the greatest asset a man can have in life. Investment in your education is an investment in the advancement of your value. The more you know, the higher your worth.

The more you invest in your self-education, the more the value you attract. You can never be more valuable than the extent of your knowledge. your knowledge determine your worth. To know more is to add more value to yourself.

Investment in knowledge is by far superior to physical investment. Houses, cars, companies can be destroyed and their values can depreciate. But investment in knowledge does not depreciate and is indestructible. Your knowledge goes only when you die, and then you don’t need it again, anyway, after one is dead.

To be more than you are is to know more than you know presently. You increase your personal value only when you increase your knowledge. In your present field of operation, what you attract in terms of renumeration is commensurate with your level of expertise. You are priced or valued according to your level of knowledge.

In life, we are limited only by our knowledge. Oh, yes, money limits, and that is because you don’t KNOW how to go about getting the money you need. It bores down to knowledge. YOU ARE NEVER BIGGER THAN THAN WHAT YOU KNOW!!! Get Knowledge. Seek it. Buy it. Treasure it!

The beautify of it all is that, you can acquire education up to the level of first degree at home without going to school, by registering with and writing the examinations of recognized and chartered professional bodies.

You don’t need to leave your job to be educated. You don’t need to change your location to be education. You can do it wherever you are in the country, and at your own pace.

So now, you know you have no excuse to remain where you are today. From being a messenger, you can rise to become the manager in that company or office.

In this write-up I bring you all the major professional bodies in Nigeria that are chattered and recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education, that conduct exams and award certificates and diplomas equivalent to university degrees.

Another good thing about these professional bodies is that their exams are external exams that you register for and write at designated centres, just as you write external GCE/WASSCE throughout the country.

Let us have a look at some of these professional bodies.
